Berrien, John letters, 1796-1799.

The collection consists of two letters and an explanatory note. The first letter is dated Nov. 20, 1796, from John Berrien to George Jones of Savannah, Ga., concerning survey and purchase of land. The second letter is dated March 19, 1799, from John Berrien to Charles Harris, Savannah, concerning some land to be sold for taxes, also inviting Mr. & Mrs. Harris to visit.

George Jones was born in Savannah, the son of Noble Wimberly Jones. He studied medicine under his father and practiced for several years. He was in the Revolutionary War in it last years, served in both houses of the Georgia Legislature, was an Alderman and Mayor of Savannah, judge of the Eastern Judicial Circuit of Georgia, and a member of the U.S. Senate in 1807.
